Then: In 2006, rapper Jay-Z embarked on a Water for Life world tour to get the word out about the worldwide water crisis. He also announced an initiative to build water pumps in Africa.
Now: Jay-Z is walking the walk when it comes to water. He met with then-United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan to discuss plans to combat the water shortage, visited Africa, and produced an MTV documentary about his experience: “Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life.”
In 2008, he was honored at the U.N.’s Global Leadership Awards Gala for bringing clean water to those in need. He continues to be committed to his mission of building pumps designed as merry-go-rounds that move water while kids play on them.
