The City of Alexandria, Va., Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) enhances growth by developing superior infrastructure and providing high-quality engineering, environmental quality, traffic control, transit, construction and inspection, surveying, street, sewer and fire hydrant maintenance, and resource and recovery collection services.

The department’s Environmental Quality Division is seeking a Civil Engineer III (Job Number 2015-00532) to perform civil engineering work and manage projects related to storm/sanitary sewer systems. The primary focus is managing studies, performing alternatives analysis, and concept-level design; but the position also involves coordinating with the relatively new Department of Project Implementation at the detailed design and construction management phases.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform analysis, design computations, and hydraulic modeling of the city’s storm sewer system
Evaluate alternatives and prepare concept-level designs for improvement projects related to stream channels and sewers
Utilize GIS mapping of the sewer system for analysis purposes and presentation purposes
Oversee consulting engineer task orders and contracts related, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget
Prepare technical and non-technical correspondence, memoranda, and reports for a variety of stakeholders
Ensure projects adhere to state and federal regulations, especially those related to the city’s MS4 permit for stormwater management
Survey other jurisdictions regarding their experience with various policies, products, construction materials, and techniques
Represent the departmePerform analysis, design computations, and hydraulic modeling of the city’s storm sewer system

Survey other jurisdictions regarding their experience with various policies, products, construction materint in meetings with other city departments and in meetings with citizens and citizen’s associations relative to city projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from an engineering school of recognized standing with a degree in civil engineering and considerable experience in the practice of professional civil engineering, some of which has been performed at the Civil Engineer II level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and experience related to the planning and design of sewer systems and/or stormwater management.

SALARY
$65,135.46 to $104,658.32 annually (DOQ)
