Old pipe: 15-foot-diameter Douglas fir held in place by iron rings; built in 1928 and replaced in 1965. Runs water from Candlewood Lake to the Rocky River hydroelectric plant’s surge tank above the Housatonic River in New Milford, Conn.

New pipe: 950 feet of 10-foot-diameter centrifugally cast, glass-fiber-reinforced, polymer mortar (CCFRPM).

We’ve covered the material’s use in public sewer and self-performed trenchless applications.
