Milwaukee hosts the 2012 American Public Works Association North American Snow Conference for winter road maintenance professionals April 29 – May 2. More than 1,500 snow fighters are expected to converge on the Frontier Airlines Center for the exhibition and educational program. Sessions cover fleet maintenance, sustainability, emergency management, transportation, and public safety.
In addition to exchanging ideas with other public works professionals, attendees have access to more than 130 manufacturers, distributors, and consultants featuring the newest equipment, technology, and products.
Other highlights include:
- Sunday, April 29: Winter Maintenance Supervisor Certificate Workshop. Introduced last year, this program provides an overview of all aspects of snow and ice control.
- Monday, April 30: General Session Talk Show. “From Shop to Storm and Back Again – Best management practices for operators and fleets” is an interactive event that focuses on improving storm response communications.
- Tuesday, May 1: Dinner and drinks at the Harley-Davidson Museum, home to more than 450 motorcycles and thousands of artifacts.
- Wednesday, May 2: Choose from three technical tours: City of Milwaukee's Central Repair Garage; Wausau-Everest snowplow manufacturing plant; Western manufacturing facility (including Wester, Fisher, and Blizzard snowplows and salt spreaders).
