The City of Pittsburgh's Port Authority operates all aspects of public transit from  buses to a rail system. Furthermore, the Port Authority maintains and operates the Monogahela Incline, a  367.4 feet tall cable-operated incline that provides tourists with breathtaking views of the city. 

Created in 1959, the Port Authority overseas 2,600 employees and services approximately 200,000 daily riders.

Manger, Way Department: manage all activities and employees within the Way Department. Responsible for administrative activities, outside contracts, and capital project activities, as related to Authority right-of ways, structures and support equipment. Investigate maintenance problems and initiate corrective action. Oversees, develops, and administers standardized programs designed to comply with applicable organizational policies and procedures.

Job requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • BA/BS degree in Engineering or Business Administration or directly related field from an accredited school. Experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in rail/track maintenance and/or roadway maintenance and construction.
  • Minimum of three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience in rail/roadway maintenance.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • A team player with a participative management style.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows and Microsoft Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints and specifications.
  • Ability to respond on a 24-hour basis.
  • Customer focused, well organized and results oriented.
  • This a Safety-Sensitive position subject to all testing provisions under the Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random drug and alcohol testing. The person selected for this position may be required to be tested prior to being awarded the job.

Preferred attributes:

  • Project Management Experience.
  • Experience in track installation and maintenance.

Assistant Manger, Way Department: manage the planning and scheduling of all Way Department work and provide technical assistance to support repair and maintenance of the Port Authority Right of Ways including, but not limited to, track, bridges, parking lots, tunnels and busways and other Port Authority properties. Oversees the Way department in the absence of the Manager of Way.

Job requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associates Degree or Technical Degree in Engineering or directly related field from an accredited school. Experience in directly related field may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in rail/track and/or roadway maintenance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows and Microsoft Word.

Preferred attributes:

  • BA/BS degrees in a technical field from an accredited school.
  • Supervisory experience in track repair/replacement or heavy highway construction.
  • Project Management Experience.

Fleet Maintenance Coordinator: coordinate all support level maintenance and overall maintenance management for Port Authority’s revenue vehicle bus fleet under the general directions of the Manager of Bus Maintenance Support.

Job requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two-year Technical Degree or Associate Degree in Business or related field from an accredited school. Related experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience with bus fleets and/or heavy automotive vehicles.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Restriction removed or must possess a valid driver’s license and acquire a Commercial Driver’s License as described above within 90 days of appointment to the position.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of Windows.
  • Effective and professional communication skills.
  • Customer-focused, well organized and results-oriented.
