The Gwinnett Village (Ga.) Community Improvement District (CID) has previewed the design for the Jimmy Carter Boulevard tall-truss bridge, which will span over I-85.
“The bridge is really the heart of our district, and this project provided us with an excellent opportunity to make our mark,” says Chuck Warbington, executive director for the Gwinnett Village CID. “We hope that it can serve as a relevant landmark for all of Gwinnett County.”
The CID contracted with architect Peter Drey to complete the design for the Jimmy Carter Boulevard interchange. Drey also designed the noted 14th Street bridge in Atlanta. The design combines traditional bridge elements (such as bridgeheads, supporting structures, and pathways for both motorists and pedestrians) into a modern composition. At night, the bridge will be colorfully illuminated.
