The fundamentals of sewage bypass

A bypass project in southern California operated for about eight hours while a connection was made to reverse the flow. The installation consisted of four primary pumps and two standby pumps sized for a peak flow rate of 24 mgd (16,667 gpm). Photos: Griffin Dewatering Farwest

If debris isn't removed from the primary pumps' impellers, they'll lose efficiency and eventually won't work at all.
