Kennametal Inc. CEO Ron DeFeo participates in a Mobility 2050 panel discussion at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He asked attendees to consider one key question: How do we inspire voters and taxpayers to get beyond the cynicism that’s caused chronic underfunding and provide the resources necessary to optimize technology? “The objective isn’t to predict the future, but to frame scenarios and trends that will inform the public and policymakers about what’s possible,” said DeFeo, who’s also chairman of the Associated Equipment Manufacturer’s Infrastructure Vision 2050 Task Force.
In his keynote address at the Mobility 2050 Symposium, U.S. DOT Deputy Secretary Victor Mendez asked attendees to envision a future where all modes use intelligent transportation technology. “Close collaboration between the public and private sectors will play an important role in determining how we move people and freight better to support the American economy,” he said.
