Lead regulation and transparency

The Flint, Mich., Water Distribution Division began replacing the first of an estimated 8,300 lead service lines on Feb. 4. The goal is to replace them all within a year, an estimated $55 million investment.

The Lansing Board of Water & Light is helping Flint’s removal-and-replacement effort by providing training, project planning, and equipment like this cutter head for trenchless cable pulling.

In January, President Obama authorized $5 million in emergency aid for Flint, Mich. Replacing the city’s 15,000 lead service lines will cost an estimated $55 million.
