Infrastructure at risk

The best-laid plans begin by assessing the vulnerability and risk of infrastructure assets that are essential to community functionality during storm surges, heavy precipitation, and/or extreme and extended heat.

In 2002, the City of Cambridge, Mass., Climate Protection Plan focused on lowering emissions because experts believed it was possible to prevent climate change. The city’s still working to minimize greenhouse gases, but has expanded sustainability efforts by determining how to prepare for inevitable increases in rain and heat duration.

The City of Cambridge’s vulnerability and risk assessment shows storms will become more intense and more frequent.
