Recently, standards for medium- and heavy-duty trucks to improve fuel efficiency and cut down carbon pollution were passed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). These new standards are menat to encourage a new generation of cleaner trucks through greater use of current technologies and the development of new cost-effective technologies through model year 2027.

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy highlighted the impacts that these standards will have on future generations:

“This next phase of standards for heavy- and medium-duty vehicles will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while driving innovation, and will ensure that the United States continues to lead the world in developing fuel-efficient technologies through the next decade and beyond.”
