Then: In 2005, MaryAnn Marrocolo had four years of post-9/11 recovery and restoration under her belt as director of plan management for New York City’s Office of Emergency Management. She also made her mark as chair of the American Public Works Association’s Emergency Management Technical Committee.

Now: Marrocolo (now MaryAnn Tierney) is administrator of FEMA’s Region 3 office in Philadelphia, where she oversees 140 full-time employees and 500 on-call employees who serve Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. She’s also worked to ensure the security of federal relief programs: She’s testified twice before the House Committee on Emergency Response about the need for better disaster preparedness.
