A hydraulic pump and motor connected to a waste vehicle's driveline can harness energy during braking. The Hydrostatic Regenerative Braking System allows up to 25% savings in energy and fuel costs depending on the driver and usage. Using a pressure reservoir, the brakes work in a normal fashion, but when accelerating they harness energy that would have otherwise been lost, using the resistance to relieve the diesel engine. The system requires no modifications for installation.
