Gathering data with geoprocessing technologies such as global positioning systems, virtual reference stations, geographic information systems (GIS), and CAD is challenging enough. Integrating the vast amount of spatial information derived from two or more of these technologies to make critical decisions can be overwhelming.

Wed, 5 Sep 2012 06:57:14 EST

Most of the backhoe-loader manufacturers have been busy lately improving their new product offerings. We take a closer look at: new M Series 2 backhoe-loaders from Case; Caterpillar's E-Series, a three-machine lineup of backhoes introduced at this year's World of Concrete Show; and Terex's TX970B backhoe-loader, introuced to the North American market last year.

Wed, 5 Sep 2012 04:55:18 EST

Parcel data, regional and community maps, facility as-builts, building permits, and other collected data are the longstanding capital of public works departments. Systems to manage and better analyze these pieces of information, however, have advanced with technology, and public agencies need to be on this cutting edge.

Wed, 5 Sep 2012 03:54:05 EST

I love my Mac. At least I do when it works. Most people are very loyal to their computers, but I'm on a Mac at work and a PC at home. So really, I can go either way as long as the machine does what I want it to do. But computers often require upgrades. We're about to move into Mac OSX here at the office, and although I've been trained on the new operating system, I'm still a little leery about its capabilities. What if I crash constantly? What if my files are not readable anymore? Or what if I need to be trained on yet more new software?

Wed, 5 Sep 2012 03:52:46 EST
