The fourth and fifth graders at the 11th Annual Children's Water Education Festival in Fountain Valley, Calif., may have been having a blast, but they were learning a valuable lesson amid all the laughter.

Presented in May by the Orange County Water District Groundwater Guardian Team, the event is designed to instill in school children the importance of water infrastructure, including its affects on the environment. Children came away from the games and exhibits with an understanding of how water, soil, plants, trees, animals, and humans all depend on each other.

“The event is more than an opportunity to educate students—it's a chance to plant seeds of knowledge that will help empower our youth to make a difference,” says Dick Zembal, member of the supporting organization Santa Ana Watershed Association.
