To ensure an effective and citizen-friendly deployment of their cadastral GIS data to the user community, Monroe County, Illinois, has selected The Sidwell Company, a St. Charles, Illinois-based provider of geographic information systems (GIS), to provide professional services for the development of the County's parcel and assessment data; as well as to provide web-hosting and other website provision services. Sidwell will develop the initial web page design and work with Monroe County personnel to ensure open access to the County's parcel data. Additionally, Monroe County's informative website will utilize their existing digital orthophotography for displaying aerial imagery so that visitors can view the landscape that underlies parcel boundary information and other map features. Administrative functions such as end-user logging of the referring IP address, data warehousing and updates, system security and backup, and continuous technical support will also be included in the overall website development services.
Monroe County's professional website design and operation will include a map navigation capability and a parcel number querying application with which users of the website (i.e. citizens and businesses) can easily access land parcel and ownership information. Laura Henry, the County's GIS Coordinator, affirms that Monroe County chose Sidwell based on the company's "...experience and quality of product," and believes one primary benefit of their new website will be its ability to"... allow taxpayers to visually see property lines and look up general information from the comfort of their own home or office." As far as any administrative efficiency that the courthouse may realize from the availability of this data on the web, Ms. Henry asserts that "We expect to see a decrease in traffic in and out of the office especially from our appraiser and real estate agent clientele. Hopefully, we will see an increase in the need for printed maps from the office, thus generating more income but allowing "lookers" to be able to look."
Monroe County joins more than 20 other jurisdictions who have selected The Sidwell Company to meet their ever-increasing GIS website needs.
