Small changes lead to big savings
Phil Landry shares just a few employee ideas that helped Ottawa Public Works Department save more than $1 million a year. In his APWA Congress presentation in Chicago, he outlined the steps Ottawa PWD took to engage more than 175 employees (and the unions) and generate more than 550 cost-saving ideas, including both quick-to-implement fixes and long-term, continuous improvements. Landry, who led the endeavor, also talked about the challenges he and his teams faced, such as ensuring transparency, creating transition plans, and change management.
