The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) updated Are You Ready?, an in-depth guide to disaster preparedness. The guide tells how to get informed about local emergency plans, identify hazards, develop and maintain an emergency communications plan, and build a disaster supplies kit. Other topics include evacuation, emergency public shelters, animal-related issues associated with a disaster, and information specific to people with disabilities.

An available facilitator guide includes training modules and a CD-ROM toolkit with slides and hazard-specific fact sheets. It is also a study guide for an independent-study course, with college credit available.
