In early May, Denver's Waste-water Operations group helped the city's schools in a fundraiser that went just ducky.

Denver Duck Drop participants “adopted” rubber ducks that were dropped into Goldsmith Gulch and raced through George Wallace Park. Sponsors of the winning ducks received airline tickets, gift certificates, and other prizes.

Now in its third year, the Duck Drop was part of the city's ongoing Duck Fest fundraiser and carnival, with proceeds benefiting elementary schools in the city's Council District 4. Past Duck Fests have raised a total of $35,000. The underlying mission: bringing home the importance of water conservation and environmental stewardship, a part of the public works department's “Keep It Clean” information campaign.
