What firms say
Each quarter, PSMJ Resources Inc. surveys AEC firms on markets, including transportation, government buildings, environmental, and water/wastewater. According to PSMJ’s first quarter 2014 report:
- Firms are taking on more road and bridge project proposals in 2014. Whether these proposals remain small and short-term or grow into larger, long-term projects depends on legislation (see funding sources, above).
- Environmental permitting and resource management project proposals remain strong, but less so than in previous periods.
- Public spending is still weak for government buildings (parks and recreation, sports, justice, and public safety facilities). It will be quite a while before spending returns to pre-recession levels.
- Major metropolitan areas are continuing to bid out major water/wastewater infrastructure upgrades as assets reach the end of their useful lives.
