A landfill-gas-to-energy project in Florida has been designated Project of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

Gainesville, Fla.-based Jones Edmunds & Associates received the award for its work on the project in Alachua County, Fla. Conducted with the county and Gainesville Regional Utilities, the project was designed to capture and convert methane gas to electricity and distribute it as "green energy."

The ASCE Project of the Year Award recognizes engineering efforts in research, design, construction, and/or management. Each project is judged on innovative application of new or existing technology, future value to the engineering profession, social and economic considerations, and complexity, in addition to whether it exceeds client needs.
