Staffers of the Winter Springs, Fla., parks and recreation department have something to boast about—their Central Winds Park, which garnered a 2006 Green Star Award from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS).
One highlight of Central Winds is a creative topiary display that resembles people playing football, baseball, and soccer. The community park boasts competition-quality, league-play-only volleyball courts and baseball, softball, and soccer fields. Its west side includes pavilions, picnic grills, playground, horseshoes, and a nature trail.
The Green Star Awards program seeks to salute both public and private grounds maintained with a high degree of excellence. To enter next year's competition, visit www.pgms.org.
