The annual National Public Works Week event—presented by the American Public Works Association—is designed to bring attention to the efforts of the people who maintain the nation's infrastructure.

The American Public Works Association (APWA) will lead the industry in celebrating National Public Works Week May 21–27.

The event—with the theme “Public Works: The Heart of Every Community”—is designed to raise awareness of public works issues and call attention to the efforts of the thousands of people who provide and maintain the nation's infrastructure and services. Established as a public education campaign by the association in 1960, the event calls attention to the importance of public works in everyday life. Over the years, observances have included parades, displays of public works equipment, high-school essay contests, open houses, programs for civic organizations, and media events.

The APWA offers a poster and other materials to aid departments in commemorating the event. For more information, visit www.apwa.net.
