Challenge: Prepare for the new Clean Air Act regulations for sewage sludge incineration units. EPA’s deadline for implementing compliance equipment and requirements limits is 2016. This will require new operating training and qualification through a new program. We have new emission limits that will require more extensive and thus, more expensive, monitoring. Additional recording and training will be required.
Solution: First, learn about the requirements and how they affect our incinerator. Second, work closely with the Southwest Clean Air Agency on the Title V permit application due in March. The good news is that it looks like our custom-designed U.S. Filter/Zimpro Inc. fluidized bed incinerator will meet the new requirements, so we won’t have to modify it—just do more extensive monitoring. We’re researching and budgeting for new monitoring systems now.
