Using the Super Air Meter to Evaluate Modern Air Entrained Concrete Mixtures

Thursday, August 28, 2014
Noon to 1:00 p.m. (CENTRAL) | 1 to 2:00 p.m. (EASTERN) | 10 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (PACIFIC)

Presenter:
Tyler Ley, Ph.D., P.E., Associate Professor, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla.

Overview
This webinar will cover the basics of air entrained concrete, and then present the challenges of providing adequate air void systems with modern concrete pavement mixtures.

The presentation will then discuss a new testing device called the Super Air Meter or SAM (www.superairmeter.com). This new meter has the ability to measure the air void size distribution in fresh concrete.

The results from the SAM are shown to correlate with the bubble size distribution determined by the hardened air void analysis in laboratory and field testing. A provisional AASHTO test method has already been prepared and the meter is being used on DOT jobs in 15 different states and in one Canadian province.

This course is well-suited for contractors, agency and military personnel, and consultants, particularly those involved in construction, testing, QA/QC, etc. For contractors, this course is recommended for project managers, construction managers, superintendents, foremen, paving equipment operators, batch plant personnel, and others with an interest in proper air entrainment, consistent concrete mixtures, and quality concrete pavements.

PDH Credit
The American Concrete Pavement Association will award 1.0 professional development hour (1 PDH) to those who participate in the webinar online and who wish to complete an optional “evidence of learning exam” following the webinar. Participants interested in earning PDH’s are responsible for determining the applicability of any training programs toward licensing requirements in their respective state/province. ACPA strongly recommends checking these requirements in advance of taking this course.
