Two Ohio towns captured gold and silver medals at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting in February. Founded in 1991, the contest—designed to recognize the best-tasting municipal and commercially available water—took place at the Coolfont Resort in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Montpelier, Ohio, won first place in the Municipal Water category, followed by Kent, Ohio. Sparwood, British Columbia, finished third; La Sage, Va., fourth; and Rice Lake, Wis., fifth.
More than 70 waters representing a dozen countries and 22 states competed for medals in the four categories of municipal, purified, bottled noncarbonated, and sparkling water. Waters were judged on appearance, aroma, taste, mouthfeel, and aftertaste.
