It’s back to school for students nationwide, but (construction) season’s still in full swing for public works departments, contractors, and vendors. There are already major accomplishments, though:

  • In July, people jumped into Boston’s Charles River for the first time since public swimming was banned in the 1950s.
  • New York City’s bike-sharing program is so popular that racks in Manhattan empty during rush hour. CitiBike is operated by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alta Bicycle Share and Public Bike System Co., the same joint venture that operates systems in Boston, Chicago (which you can tour if you’re coming next week for the American Public Works Association’s annual convention), Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.

I’m sure your team’s done something that’s improved quality of life for local residents and visitors. What was it? Share it by e-mailing sjohnston@hanleywood.com.
