Lapses in oversite from state regulators could be the source of an increase in lead levels among children due to a new drinking water source. Lead causes irreversible health damage, particularly in young children causing parents in Flint, MI. to raise concerns about their local drinking water.
The problem began a year ago shortly after Flint stopped drawing water from Detroit's system and instead getting water from the Flint River. Since this switch, doctors and researchers have seen a rise in elevated blood levels among kids under five.
To look into this, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has appointed an emergency manger in Flint, Mi.
