The Village of Glencoe (pop. 8,723), a service-oriented, North Shore community with a long history of government services that are both innovative and collaborative, is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Public Works Supervisor.

Under the direction of the General Superintendent, the PW Supervisor is responsible for varied administrative and operational tasks within the refuse, street, sewer, water, forestry, fleet maintenance, and traffic control divisions of the Public Works Department.

With service to the community its highest priority; the Village is seeking qualified candidates that possess an open, team-oriented style, with a strong focus on excellent customer service. The selected candidate will have the ability to plan, schedule, and supervise operational and maintenance activities within departmental divisions; assist in the procurement of materials and equipment; assist with development/implementation of the department’s annual budget as well as the department’s strategic work plan items; respond to emergency call-back events; coordinate training and development of the department’s maintenance operations staff; and promote and enforce safe work practices.

Qualified applicants should possess at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a minimum of 8 years of related public works experience (supervisory experience preferred); knowledge of and ability to supervise/perform general maintenance on streets, sewers, water main, forestry, fleet and related areas; strong communication skills; writing and grammar skills necessary to prepare written reports and office correspondence; general proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; and a valid Illinois driver’s license Class B CDL. A Class C-D IEPA water operator’s license is also desirable.

The Village offers a competitive salary range of  $66,731 - $99,535 along with a comprehensive benefits package. Starting salary will depend upon qualifications of the selected candidate.

WATER PLANT OPERATOR, Village of Glencoe

The Village of Glencoe (pop. 8,723) is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Water Plant Operator (WPO). Under the direction of the Water Plant Superintendent, the WPO is responsible for various maintenance, monitoring and recordkeeping activities for the operation and maintenance of the Village’s existing 8MGD Water Treatment Plant (WTP), constructed in 1928.  The selected candidate will have the ability to follow oral and written instructions; operate, maintain and repair water treatment facility equipment; and work a shift schedule.

Qualified applicants should possess at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent; a minimum of 5 years of related experience – water treatment plant experience preferred; working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in water treatment plant maintenance and operation activities; strong communication skills; general computer experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and possession of State of Illinois Class C-D Water Operator’s License (desirable) or ability to obtain in 12 months. A valid Illinois driver’s license is required.

The Village offers a competitive salary range (effective 3/1/15) of $56,256 - $68,280 along with a comprehensive benefits package.  Starting salary will depend upon qualifications of the selected candidate.

VILLAGE OF WINNETKACivil Engineering Co-op/Internship

Job Description
The Civil Engineering Co-Op/Intern is responsible for supporting the civil engineering office in the planning, designing, administration, and construction of capital improvement and maintenance projects. Main duties include performing traffic counts, preparing CAD drawings, performing construction inspections, and participating on survey crews. Knowledge of general office skills and the ability to organize information is also important.

Requirements
Applicants should have general knowledge of computers, survey equipment, and CAD drafting methods, in addition to strong interpersonal skills to interact with the public. To be considered, applicants should have a minimum of college sophomore status and currently be pursuing a degree in Engineering. Candidates should have the ability to live within a
reasonable proximity to the village as working full-time during breaks and summer is preferred.

Internship opportunities are only available to students at a college or university, in an Engineering program directly related to the internship available, and where internship credit and/or documentation from the student’s adviser can be attained. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, be at least 18 years of age, be traditional full-time students at a college or university, and be able to provide proper documentation of their full-time student status for the 2015 fall semester. All students are required to pass a drug screen and background check post offer.

Salary: $11.50/hr.
