National Public Works Week isn’t until May 17–23, but it’s never too early to start planning.
Community Begins Here is the theme of the annual event launched by the American Public Works Association (APWA) in 1960 to raise awareness of “the often-unsung heroes who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.”
This year’s poster was designed by Christiane Beauregard, an award-winning illustrator and designer in Montreal.
Order copies of the 20-by-30-inch poster at www.apwa.net ($13 each for members; $16 for nonmembers). Delivery is usually within 24 hours.
The website also contains a ton of free information on how to use National Public Works Week to promote your department: sample proclamations, event ideas, how to publicize what you’re doing, and what departments around the country did last year.
