In 1929, Marshfield buried 3,100 feet of precast concrete storm sewer. While in the midst of a $3 million street improvement project, city engineers were amazed to find that neither the pipe nor the joints had deteriorated.

But because they're not large enough to meet future capacity needs, they're selling it and using it in other projects instead of a storm sewer expansion.

"It was a tough call to replace the pipe," says the assistant city engineer.
