In the Central Valley of California the soil is full of natural salt, creating problems for farmers in the region. Each time a farmer wants to irrigate the field, the salty runoff can cause harm to the surrounding land and cause wildfires. To combat this, California is in the works to build a unique solar-powered desalination plant. It is likely to be built early next year in Fresno County and will make enough water for 10,000 homes in a year.
