Mulkey Announces Company Name Change to CALYX Engineers + Consultants
Mulkey is changing its name to CALYX Engineers and Consultants in response to a new chapter in the company’s history, marked by the retirement of founder Barbara Mulkey. The name change, effective March 7, is part of a re-branding initiative to align the company’s name with future strategy.
Drawn from both the natural and engineering worlds, a calyx refers to a type of drill that penetrates the hardest rock, yet it’s also the term for the protective petals of a budding plant. “It’s a reflection of how we work,” said Jill Wells Heath, president and CEO of CALYX, “breaking through challenges and bringing each project to reality with the utmost care for our clients, the environment, and the communities we serve. We’re excited to share our new name that reflects who we are now and who we want to be in the future.”
In 23 years, CALYX has grown from an entrepreneurial startup to one of the most well respected civil engineering firms in the Southeast. The firm’s portfolio of services now includes roadway and structure design, land surveying, subsurface utility engineering, construction engineering inspection, transportation planning, building structure design, site and civil engineering, environmental services, cultural resources, traffic services, and water resources.
