EPA Deputy Administrator Bob Perciasepe swears in Gina McCarthy (left) as the agency's new leader with former EPA Administrator Carol Browner.

McCarthy was Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection commissioner until President Obama appointed her Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation in 2009.

During her 30-year career, she's worked at both the state and local levels to coordinate policies on economic growth, energy, transportation, and the environment.

McCarthy has a Bachelor of Arts in Social Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Boston and a joint Master of Science in Environmental Health Engineering and Planning and Policy from Tufts University.
