The National Council for Public-Private Partnerships has given its 2005 Leadership Award to Mary Peters, national director for transportation policy for HDR, an Omaha, Neb.-based consulting firm.

Peters is the former administrator of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and is currently based in HDR's Phoenix office. Peters was honored for her efforts—both within FHWA and at the state and local levels—to promote the use of public-private partnerships to help finance and deliver transportation projects. Her contributions include championing a number of proposals related to public-private partnerships in SAFETEA-LU. Peters also created the Office of Public-Private Partnerships at FHWA.
