In a field that is predominately male, Janice Parker Crudup has broken the gender barrier among New Haven garbage haulers. Believed to be the first female garbage hauler in New Haven, Crudup applied for the job after seeing a position open at the city’s employee bulletin board.

She begins her day around 3:00 a.m. and completes here shift close to 10 a.m., which she enjoys. She hopes to get a permanent position once she works 120 days in a year and gets training.
