It is no easy feat to dig through tunnels. Nor, is it an easy feet to dig through tunnels under one of Europe’s oldest metro systems. Well, that’s exactly the challenge that faced those working with London’s Crossrail, the company behind the new line for London’s Tube that uses custom-built tunneling machines.
Nicknamed the Victoria, this machine is being dismantled so it can be recycled. At issue is that the machine is so large that it must be dismantled piece-by-piece.
