American Water was awarded the operation and maintenance contract for the City of Camden, valued at $125 million over a 10-year term. American Water's Contract Services Group began managing Camden's water on February 1, 2016.
New Jersey American Water, American Water's regulated subsidiary, owned and operated a one-third of the water systems services in Camden prior to this contract. Residents who already received these services were unaffected by this change.
American Water Contract Services President David Choate spoke highly of this opportunity to operate and improve the city's water systems through this contract:
“Through our operations, engineering, and technology expertise, we are looking forward to implementing changes and partnering with the City to make critical system improvements to reduce water loss, improve water taste, help better manage stormwater issues and provide high quality service to the City’s utility customers.”
