In August, the Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC) released their report entitled, “Best Practices for Achieving and Measuring Pavement Smoothness: A Synthesis of State-of-Practice.” The report looks into current U.S. asphalt and concrete pavement smoothness requirements. This comes as many states move away from profilograph-based smoothness specifications and are leaning more towards the International Roughness Index (IRI). This new report helps contractors, agencies, and engineers.
Agencies are moving to IRI as a standard as it more accurately assesses the smoothness of roads.
