The U.S. Department of Transportation last week announced that it will provide $500 million dollars for 39 transportation projects as part of its TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economy Recovery) program. Nearly half of the projects are in rural areas. Compared to previous years, rural areas received 43% of the project awards this year.

The TIGER program supports the following goals and initiatives by the Dept. of Transportation: connecting community to opportunities, improving safety, and supporting innovation.
