The Windy City will see a swirl of activity when the 2013 American Public Works Association (APWA) International Congress and Exposition breezes into Chicago’s McCormick Place Lakeside Center Aug. 25-28.
For more than 100 years, the event has drawn thousands from around the world to network and learn the latest solutions to universal issues, problems, and challenges.
“The Best Show in Public Works” offers more than 125 technical and professional development education sessions presented by public works managers and academics. This year, attendees receive free downloadable versions of the recorded sessions, a savings of $229 from previous years.
Special “non-compete” hours (Sunday, Aug. 25, noon–3 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 26, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.) allow uninterrupted attendance at The Expo Experience, where more than 400 exhibitors showcase products, services, and technologies on nearly 90,000 square feet of floor space. Those wares are displayed in five zones:
- Central Park (parks and recreation products)
- Exhibitor Solutions Theater, where you can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by attending hourly presentations. Look for live interviews with speakers, prize drawings, cyber stations, and lunch on Sunday and Monday
- Green Products and Services
- New Product Showcases
Back by popular demand: happy hour
Each day on the Expo floor sponsoring exhibitors invite attendees to enjoy a cold beer while kicking a few tires. Exhibit hours are Sunday, Aug. 25, noon–4 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 27, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
